ICANN, independent entity responsible for regulating Internet domain names, just announced that the reveal date for the new gTLD program, will be  June 13th.

The TLD Application System (TAS), the system by which one makes an application for a new gTLD domain extension closed last May 30th, at 23:59 GMT/UTC, a week before the next ICANN meeting in Prague.

The cost to obtain a new extension such as  “.canon”, “.sport” or “.nyc” rises to $ 185,000 plus $ 25,000 annual fee.
According to Rod Beckstrom, CEO of ICANN, the entity has collected almost $ 352 million in registration fees.

After the big reveal of the new domain name extensions, it will be a period where anyone in the world will be able to contest a pending application. This period will help to resolve conflicts over domain names too close to each other or those associated with similar requests submitted by several applicants.
